1. Search of the client

The client (OFN) provides solutions for road infrastructure and rail infrastructure to make the journey and information flow as pleasant and clear as possible. For a project, the client was looking for a production partner that can contribute ideas in the development and production of road signage.

A pole with signs can’t be that difficult, can it? The client was given the challenge of developing a signage system for places of interest in various Dutch cities that had to meet technically challenging specifications.

They soon came across the Pillen Group, which can convert an idea and design through co-engineering and product development into an efficiently producible and assembleable whole that meets the requirements/specifications of the architect.

2. The case

Het product moest gaan voldoen aan een eenvoudig monteerbaar robuust systeem aangezien de plaatsing van bewegwijzering bedoeld voor de publieke sector snel en efficiënt gebeuren. Dit is veelal een logistieke uitdaging waarbij er zo min mogelijk overlast moet zijn voor de omgeving.

De betrokken architect heeft hierbij namelijk een duidelijke visie hoe de wegbewijzering er uit moet komen te zien qua design en specificaties. Hierbij werdt helder aangegeven wat wel, en niet mag. Dit resulteerde automatisch in een maaktechnische uitdaging waar wij graag onze tanden in zetten. Dat is immers onze kracht ‘Impossible? Let’s Make it!’

3. Our added value

Converting the product idea/design with requirements and specifications into a producible and mountable whole, using smart fastening methods;
Determining the right material; lightweight yet strong and corrosion resistant. Here it was decided to manufacture the product mainly from aluminum;
A vandalism and weather resistant product;
Tight challenging project deadline.

4. Materials, operations and treatment

Aluminum sheet parts;
Aluminum pipe parts;
Lasering, Sawing, Milling, Drilling, Welding and Assembly;
Chemical pre-treatment (Seaside) and powder coating according to Qualicoat guidelines.
