CNC turning

Pillen has an air-conditioned machine park with various lathes, with or without fully automatic bar feed with driven tools. Our lathes are robotized where necessary and can be controlled remotely using our cad/cam system. Materials that we process are steel, stainless steel, aluminum material.

We also have various CNC turning-milling combination machines that can both turn and mill (all in one). This form of machining ensures that we can simultaneously turn and mill in one setup. This is a specific machining method to make products as efficiently and accurately as possible.

What is CNC turning?

CNC turning is a method of machining which, in contrast to milling, can produce smaller machining parts. The bar material rotates and is placed against a chisel which moves along with the material. The chisel cuts away the material by means of longitudinal turning, transverse turning and stabbing.

How does CNC turning work?

In CNC turning, a product is placed in a clamp or driven by a bar feed and held by a clamp. The clamp holds the product in place and rotates it at the necessary speed. A chisel goes along the product to give the product the desired shape. The chisel cuts away the material by means of longitudinal turning, transverse turning and stabbing.

When to apply CNC turning?

Turning is often chosen if the product consists of round workpieces. If a round product has to be milled, it will have to be milled circularly, which will take more time than when it is rotated. However, the workpiece remains dependent on the best option (turning or milling). We can properly assess this by means of a drawing.
